What the technical terms mean
Enough detail for technical evaluators, in language an executive can act on.
- API
- A controlled way for two software systems to exchange information or trigger actions.
- Computer vision
- Software that interprets images or video from cameras, such as identifying a vehicle or detecting a defined event.
- BLE · Bluetooth Low Energy
- A low-power wireless signal used to identify or locate tagged equipment, vehicles or people.
- DMS
- Dealer or business management software used to manage customers, vehicles, jobs and related records.
- ERP
- Enterprise resource planning software that connects finance, inventory, procurement and operations.
- POS
- Point-of-sale software used to record sales and payments.
- QR code
- A scannable code that can open a digital menu, ordering page, payment flow or other service.
- Workflow
- A defined sequence of steps that moves information or a task from one stage to another.
- AI guardrails
- Rules and controls that constrain what an AI system can do and determine when it must ask for human intervention.
- Multi-tenant system
- Software that serves multiple organisations or business units while keeping their data separated.
- Facial recognition
- Technology that compares a person’s facial features with authorised records. Its use is governed by applicable privacy, security and employment requirements.
- Geofence
- A virtual boundary on a map. Crossing it can trigger an alert or an action, such as flagging an unplanned stop on a haulage route.
- Telematics
- Data collected from a vehicle, such as position, speed, braking and fuel level, used to manage a fleet.
- Driver risk score
- A per-driver rating built from events such as speeding, harsh braking and cornering, used for coaching rather than punishment.
